Bångbro Herrgård is a historic manor house originally built in the 1850s as the residence of the estate manager for the founder of Bångbro Ironworks, Leo Wallmo.
In 1987, the manor was acquired by the Westlund family, who established a hotel and restaurant within the property. In 1990, the manor was carefully renovated and extended, transforming it into a modern venue for celebrations and conferences — while preserving its genuine manor house atmosphere.

For many years, Bångbro Herrgård was operated by the Westlund family, who also previously ran Tages Värdshus in Bångbro.
In the spring of 2025, the business was acquired by Jörgen and Natalie Hart, a couple from Kopparberg with deep local roots and a strong commitment to preserving the cultural heritage while continuing to develop the manor and its offerings.
Surroundings full of possibilities
During the summer season, you can enjoy world‑class opera at Opera på Skäret, located just a 15‑minute drive away. Just as close is Stjernfors Golf Course, our local and scenic 9‑hole course set in beautiful natural surroundings.
Slightly further north lies Ställbergs Mine, another cultural landmark that has put Bergslagen on the map and is well worth a visit.
If you instead head into the centre of Kopparberg, you can stroll through a well‑preserved and picturesque Bergslagen village, with its characteristic red houses and one of Sweden’s most beautiful churches. Here you will also find John Scotts, a pub that frequently offers live music, both intimate performances and larger events.
Or simply stay close to the manor and take a walk along the pond, enjoying the fresh evening air and rich wildlife surrounding the Bångbro Canal — a nature experience in itself.
The History of the Manor
The history of Bångbro Herrgård is closely intertwined with the history of Bångbro Works. The manor was built in the 1870s as the residence of the estate manager for the founder of Bångbro Ironworks, Leo Wallmo.
However, only a few years later, bankruptcy became a fact and Leo Wallmo was left destitute. In 1875, the bankrupt estate was acquired by Motala Mechanical Workshop, and operations at Bångbro Works expanded rapidly. By 1882, the workforce numbered 325 employees.
Despite this growth, profitability proved challenging, and the ironworks was sold to Aktiebolaget Bångbro Jernverk. In 1895, Baron Carl Klingspor acquired the business and renamed it Bångbro Tube Works. In 1926, the tube works declared bankruptcy.
In 1929, Hellefors Manufakturverk took over the operations and later sold them to SKF in 1957. In 1979, the company was renamed SKF Steelstrip AB, which in 1982 became a wholly owned subsidiary of Uddeholm Strip Steel AB.
After many years of financial difficulties, Bångbro Works was finally closed, and the factory premises were vacated in 1987. That same year, the manor was sold to the Westlund family.
In the spring of 2025, the manor was taken over by Jörgen and Natalie Hart, a couple from Kopparberg, who continue to run Bångbro Herrgård with the same warm, family‑oriented spirit.
